Tried the following to remove and keep it off all with “notify me” setting in update:ġ Uninstalling EPSON software – 10 just reinstalls the BLOAT version via updateĢ Uninstalling then running wushowhide.diagcab – NOPE tool does not see it as a driver or update to hide.ģ Just uninstalling the unwanted components – you cannot really get rid of it all its almost malware territory/ and or you break the printer or scanner drivers you want.Ĥ Re clean install with setting (device installation for “Never install drivers….” ) Before I even connect to the internet, DOES NOT WORK as mentioned already.ĥ Re clean install then installing the clean drivers in hopes to prevent update from installing… NOPE installed bloat anyway.Ħ Re clean install then not choosing find computers, shares, printers on the network: yea it works but why have a local network and do I really have to set up sharing manually?ħ Restored to immediately after clean install then setting my connection to “metered” yea it keeps the EPSON nightmare away but only seems to do security updates so far withĪny way to stop the mandatory install of garbage Chinese 3 rd party printer BLOAT/malware? WTH? Really? Why did you install it then? The 6 EPSON bloatware programs in my startup that have a HIGH impact on the system.

Microsoft update immediately installed the BLOAT version of the EPSON software (calling it a driver) without me noticing. I did that with the Windows 10 media creation tool. I wanted to clean install on the old Dell and a brand new 8.1 laptop (as past experience and logic dictate that OS migration without clean install is a recipe for fail) so Then I upgraded the 8.1 laptop via Microsoft update as it was looking good at the time (0 other issues/key activation No issues as it migrated from 7 and ran its updates etc. Test upgraded via Microsoft update an 6 year old Dell laptop the day 10 came out. EPSON is known to have bloat version of the "drivers" that actually includes about 6 programs that you don’t need and everyone knows to not install it. Backstory: 4 machines running Win 7 Home and 1 running 8.1 have had 0 issues with the “My specific problem is with a good EPSON 2540 printer I have had for 18 months now. Software is pretty much malware causing me to clean install or restore just to get it all out. it really all comes down to 0 control over updates.

I just asked this question, but thought I would say that we probably have a similar problem…. Windows 10 Home took away the ability to do any of that, so now my Windows Update History is just a mass of "Canon MP560 Driver Updated Successfully" messages, and it's hard to find anything else. I just want Windows Update to stop being stupid, and stop re-installing the *exact same* driver, successfully, over and over, with no way to stop it, no way to opt out, no way to deselect it, etc. That's pretty much a "cure worse than the disease". Removing the driver will disable my printing, and I certainly do NOT want to prevent the driver from downloading ever again after removing it because then I won't be able to print at all. Or tell Windows Update to ignore it because it's already there (and hasn't been updated in FIVE YEARS, so why does it think it's new anyway?!?) and then installs successfully EVERY SINGLE TIME.Īll I need is a way to somehow mark that as "updated". The problem is that since upgrading to Windows 10, the driver shows up in Windows Update EVERY TIME I CHECK. I don't want to uninstall or disable it or prevent it from ever installing again once it's gone.
